Spanaway Community & Historic Area Info
Old and new, there is much to know about the place we call home.
Elk Plain got its name from the local Indians. It and Loveland are essentially the same place with 2 names thanks to the Chehalis-Western railroad who chose the name Loveland when they built a whistle stop there in 1907.
Spanaway Lake has also been called Spinally, Spanuch, and Bushalier.
The end of the northern most leg of the Oregon Trail was the Naches Trail and it ended at the Brookdale Golf Course. There is an Oregon Trail marker in front of the golf course near the road.
